- מַעֲרִיבm. (עָרַב II), (ה)מַ׳ עֲרָבִים who causes the evenings to set, name of the first section of the night prayer. Ber.12a פתח במ׳ ע׳וכ׳ if one began the first section with maʿărib ʿărabim and closed with ‘Creator of the lights. Ib. סיים במ׳ ע׳ if he closed with m. ʿăr. (in place of ‘Creator of the lights).(In liturgy: (תְּפִלַּת) מַעֲרִיב the night prayer.
